After India’s historic ICC T20 World Cup title success against South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29, BCCI secretary Jay Shah praised India’s perseverance and winning mentality.
Shah declared on Sunday, June 30th, that the side that won the title and broke their 11-year ICC trophy drought would receive a prize money of Rs 125 crore.
In a thrilling final, Rohit Sharma and company overcame South Africa by seven runs to win their second T20 World Cup. The first had occurred in South Africa seventeen years before.
Shah, cited by PTI, said, “Under the extraordinary leadership of Rohit Sharma, this team has shown remarkable resolve and resilience, becoming the first team in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup to win the tournament unbeaten.”
Shah went on to say that the team’s outstanding performances had quieted all of the detractors, and that the campaign had been nothing short of inspirational.
“They have repeatedly delivered outstanding performances to silence their naysayers. They now enter the ranks of the greats, and their journey has been nothing short of inspirational,” he continued.
“I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024,” Shah posted to X.
